Overview

Explore the wonders of the Aeolian Islands with a 2-day, 1-night tour of Lipari, Alicudi and Filicudi

Welcome to the enchanting world of the Aeolian Islands, where breathtaking views and the magic of adventure await you! If you dream of discovering the natural beauty of Lipari, Alicudi and Filicudi, we have the perfect tour for you.

Our 2-day, 1-night tour will take you through three of the most fascinating islands of the Aeolian archipelago.

DAY 1:

Your 2-day tour of Lipari, Alicudi and Filicudi will start with your autonomous arrival in Lipari. It is necessary to be in Lipari by 08:00. Check-in is available from 1 pm, but the hotel offers you the option of leaving your luggage earlier.

9.30 am – Departure from the port of Lipari Marina Corta to take the tour of Alicudi and Filicudi.

The tour of the island will begin by skirting the Faraglioni of Lipari until reaching the Grotta del Bue Marino on the north-western side of the Filicudi Island. This is the largest cave on the Aeolian Islands, and its name derives from the monk seals that inhabited it in the past. During navigation, you will also spot the striking stacks of MontenassariGiafante and La Canna, which have become an emblematic sign of this island. The Canna is a volcanic rock that stands out against the sea for over 70 metres, surrounded by transparent waters full of colourful fish. Arriving at the Port of Filicudi, you will land on the island to visit it on your own. The harbour area is the nerve centre of the island, where you can find small businesses.

What to see on Filicudi Island

  • The prehistoric village of Capo Graziano, whose findings testify to the presence on the island of a flourishing obsidian industry during the Neolithic period. Don’t let the trek to the top put you off; the view will repay all your efforts!
  • Museo Archeologico Eoliano (Aeolian Archaeological Museum), in the locality of Porto, where it is possible to find artefacts discovered in the excavations of the Neolithic village of Capo Graziano and findings from the wrecks all around the island.

In the early afternoon, you will depart for Alicudi, the westernmost island of the archipelago, which has remained untouched by mass tourism. Here you will enjoy the wilderness and tranquillity that characterise the island.

What to see on Alicudi Island

  • San Bartolo is located going up from the harbour at a height of about 330 metres, where you can breathe in fresh, clean air and enjoy a splendid view of the endless sea.
  • Contrada Tonna is a small cluster of rural houses representing authentic Aeolian architecture, with steps built with dry-stone walls.

The tour of Alicudi and Filicudi will end with the return to the port of Lipari Marina Corta, scheduled for around 6 pm.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2:

Your 2-day tour of Lipari, Alicudi and Filicudi will continue with a visit of Lipari Island.

8.00 am – Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out by 10 am.

Spend the day visiting Lipari Island by yourself.

Stroll through the streets of Lipari and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, dotted with small shops and bars where you can enjoy a refreshing ‘granita‘. Here you can also find characteristic ceramic objects, capers and the characteristic Malvasia liqueur. Explore the Lipari Cathedral, an extraordinary testament to art and history, and the Lipari CastleIts history dates back to prehistoric times and has seen a succession of civilisations over the centuries. From this fortress overlooking the sea, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the island and the surrounding sea. Finally, don’t forget to make a stop at the Geophysical Observatory, from where you can admire one of the most beautiful views of the island, with a panoramic view of most of the Aeolian Islands.

What to see on Lipari Island

  • For the architecture lovers, we recommend the Baroque church of San Giuseppe and the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima della Catena, from whose terrace you can enjoy a panorama that will leave you breathless. For another marvellous view, go to the Quattrocchi viewpoint, from which you can also admire the island of Vulcano.
  • If you are an archaeology lover, don’t miss the Luigi Bernabò Brea Aeolian Archaeological Museum, containing artefacts from different eras found during excavations on the Aeolian Islands.
  • Not far from Marina Corta, you will find the Piazza Arti e Mestieri, nicknamed ‘Sopra la Terra’ (‘Above the Earth’), which has become a tourist attraction for its murals depicting the inhabitants themselves in glimpses of their everyday life.
  • If you want to enjoy relaxing moments by the sea, Lipari has many seaside places. Among the most important are the Spiaggia Bianca and the Spiaggia di Canneto.
  • For those who love nightlife, in the summertime, Lipari offers many opportunities, such as concerts, folklore and theatre festivals, as well as many clubs and discos where theme nights are organised.
