Etna Tour from Catania

Embark on a fascinating tour to Mount Etna, departing from Catania, and take in breathtaking views, ancient craters, lava flows, and lunar landscapes while discovering the rich history and unique geology of Europe’s most active volcano.

Your driver will pick you up at 10:30 a.m. directly from your accommodation and take you towards Rifugio Sapienza, located on the southern slope of Etna. Along the way, you’ll stop at several points of interest, guided by a multilingual expert who will introduce you to the volcano’s history, recent eruptions, and the iconic Silvestri Craters.

Upon arrival at Rifugio Sapienza (1,920 meters above sea level), you’ll have two options:

• Join your guide on a trekking route along one of Etna’s natural trails, reaching up to 2,000 meters above sea level.
• Choose the high-altitude experience: take the Etna cable car to 2,504 meters, then continue in special 4×4 off-road vehicles to reach the highest altitude allowed for visitors. Here, you’ll be surrounded by a dramatic volcanic landscape where you can spot the Central Crater, the South-East crater, and the historic lava flows that have shaped Etna’s terrain over time. Accompanied by certified alpine guides (available in Italian and English), you’ll safely explore the most dynamic areas of the volcano, all in compliance with safety regulations. Transportation back to Rifugio Sapienza is included.

The tour continues with a visit to a lava flow cave, equipped with helmets and torches, offering a unique perspective on the underground world of Etna.

Before returning to your accommodation, you’ll stop at a local organic farm for a delicious tasting of Sicilian wines, honey, olive oils, and other regional specialties.
